 AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

*PLEASE NOTE: Tamariki are welcome to bring a support person/whaanau to their audition. If you wish to audition with a friend or in a small group (2-4 people), please book two back-to-back slots and let the team know via the online audition form.

 LEAD ROLES

Tamariki wanting to audition for the roles of Moana, Maui, Chief Ancestors 1, 2 & 3, Gramma Tala, Chief Tui, Sina, Pua, Hei Hei or Tamatoa will need to:

  • Register for an audition time using the audition form.
  • Learn and perform the appropriate dialogue from the characters page.
  • Learn and perform a song from the movie or the show.

 ENSEMBLE ROLES

Tamariki wanting to be considered for the Ancestor Ensemble, Ocean Ensemble, Villagers, Maui Ensemble, Monsters, Gate Monster, Left Claw, Right Claw, Shiny Ensemble, Te Fiti, or Te Kā will need to:

  • Register for an audition time using the audition form.
  • Learn and perform a song from the movie Moana, or the stage show Moana JR.
  • Tell the creative team about any special performance skills you have, eg. gymnastics, juggling, playing musical instruments etc.

 GROUP DANCE AUDITION

All young people need to register to attend the Group Dance Audition on Friday, August 29 at Riverlea Theatre.

A group dance audition means that auditionees will attend as a group to learn and perform a section of choreography from the show. This will look like:

  • Warm-up: A group warm-up led by the choreographer.
  • Learning Choreography: The choreographer will teach a section of choreography.
  • Performance: Dancers will perform the choreography in small groups.
  • Evaluations: During the performance, the choreographer will assess technique, musicality, stage presence, and the ability to pick up and retain choreography.

REHEARSALS

Rehearsals will take place Saturday, Monday, and Wednesday for all of October and November 2025. All at Riverlea Theatre unless otherwise stated.

First Get Together/Mihi Whakatau – 1 pm, Saturday 4 October, 2025

Saturdays – 1-5pm
Mondays – 6.30-9pm
Wednesdays – 6.30-9pm
